Sprouts & Spades Gardeners
We’re looking for plant lovers with helping hands to bring a little green to our House! As a Sprouts & Spades volunteer, you’ll nurture our indoor and outdoor gardens, provide our houseplants some TLC, and make sure we have a supply of fresh produce for families’ meals. Gardening experience is a bonus but not required.
Commitment
We ask our Sprouts & Spades volunteers to commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of 50 hours or one full semester for students.
Shifts
Shifts are available Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9am-12pm. This is the ideal time for the outdoor plants to be watered. If you are interested in this opportunity but this time frame does not work for you, please email samantha@rmhcsodak.org to arrange an alternate time.
Duties Include
Volunteer responsibilities will vary due to weather, season, and necessity. Examples of tasks include (but are not limited to):
- Watering plants
- Harvesting food
- Weeding
- Planting seeds
- Pruning
- Changing the water & adding nutrients to hydroponic gardens
- Maintainig the compost bin
- Pest control (organic methods ONLY)
Training
During your first shift, you will receive a House tour including in-depth tours of both gardens. You will report to Sprouts & Spades supervisor Samantha Dixon.

Responsibilities
Sprouts & Spades volunteers are responsible for:
- 6 outdoor raised garden beds
- Multiple potted/hanging outdoor plants
- Houseplants in lobby
- Compost bin
- Indoor hydroponic garden
- 3 tower gardens
- 3 tabletop herb gardens
- Potted houseplants
